We close them (or we don't).
First call is the same 10-minute conversation everyone gets. If they're a fit, they sign a 6-month engagement. If they're not, we tell them. We won't pressure your friend just to give you a discount.
$500 hits your next invoice.
After their first invoice clears, $500 is automatically credited to your next monthly invoice from SEOD. If $500 exceeds your fee that month, the remainder rolls forward.
Why a flat $500 discount, not a tiered loyalty program?
Most agencies run their referral programs through a portal with points, tiers, expiration dates, and three pages of T&Cs that nobody reads. We don't. Flat discount, simple math, no minimums, no maximum. The reason: your time is worth more than a slot machine. If a referral is going to happen, it'll happen because you trust the work, not because you're chasing a $50 reward.
$500 also matches our actual customer-acquisition cost. If you bring us a client, you've effectively done the work of a sales-and-marketing function we'd otherwise have to staff. That deserves real money, not a points balance.
Who can refer.
The referral credit is reserved for businesses that have already chosen to work with us. Specifically:
- You are a current SEOD client on an active 6-month engagement.
- Your account is in good standing on monthly invoices.
That's it, no portal signup, no separate partner program, no third-tier marketplace. If you're paying us already, you can refer.
Who's a good fit to refer.
The businesses most likely to close (and most likely to be glad you sent them):
- Bay Area restaurants, retail, nonprofits, professional services with $500K+ in annual revenue
- Owner is overworked and ready to hand off marketing or operations
- Currently spending money on an offshore agency or a junior account manager and not seeing results
- Trying to scale (second location, second office, more hires) but the marketing isn't there yet
- Has a real budget for a 6-month engagement (~$497-1,997/mo + setup)
Who's NOT a good fit (please don't send these).
- Pre-revenue startups
- National brands without a Bay Area presence
- Pure-SaaS companies (we refer those out, see our decision log for why)
- Anyone shopping at the absolute bottom of the price range, they'll churn at month 2 and you won't get the discount

If you send us a referral, we'll respond within 4 hours weekdays, 8 hours weekends. We'll loop you in once we've spoken. If they sign, your discount lands on schedule. If they don't, we'll tell you why so you can keep refining who you send our way.

Who can refer a business?

If you're not a client yet but want to send a great lead, we'll thank you personally, but the $500 credit is reserved for active clients.
How does the $500 discount work?
Once your referred business signs a 6-month engagement and pays the first invoice, $500 is automatically credited to your next monthly invoice from SEOD. The discount applies to one month per referral. If $500 exceeds your monthly fee that month, the remainder rolls forward into the following invoice.
Can I refer more than one business?
Yes, no cap. Each successful signup earns a separate $500 credit. Refer two businesses that sign and you'll get $500 off two consecutive months. Refer five, get $500 off five months. Each credit is tied to one referral; they don't combine into a single bigger discount, they spread across consecutive invoices.
Can I refer myself or my own businesses?
No. Self-referrals and referrals to entities you own or control don't qualify. Referrals must be genuinely third-party.
How do I make a referral?

Is the discount taxable?
It's a discount on services, not cash, so it doesn't generate a 1099. Talk to your accountant if you have specific questions.
